Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Higher education providers must maintain a mission based compact with the Australian Tertiary Education Commission to receive grants.
The Australian Tertiary Education Commission must review the Higher Education Standards Framework at least every 5 years.
The Australian Tertiary Education Commission must consult with students, providers, and state ministers before making recommendations on education standards.
The Australian Tertiary Education Commission replaces the Higher Education Standards Panel in the quality framework.
The Minister can make rules to carry out the Act; these rules cannot create criminal offences or taxes.
Existing mission based compacts stay in force under the new Act.
