Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility has until 30 June 2036 to make decisions on financial assistance.
The Board must tell responsible Ministers in writing if the Facility fails to follow the Investment Mandate; it must also propose actions to fix the failure.
Responsible Ministers can order the Board to explain a failure to follow the Investment Mandate; they can also order specific actions to ensure compliance.
The Board must follow any direction given by the responsible Ministers regarding the Investment Mandate.
Transactions remain valid even if the Facility fails to follow the Investment Mandate or a Minister's direction.
The Minister must order reviews of the Act after 30 June 2029 and 30 June 2034; the reports must be tabled in Parliament.
