Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Major sporting events, authorising bodies, and event bodies are now identified through rules; they are no longer listed in the Act schedules.
Protected indicia and protection periods for events are now set by rules.
Protected images or indicia relate to every event body for a specific event; rules can create exceptions to this.
The Minister must be satisfied that an event is of international significance before prescribing it as a major sporting event.
The Minister must ensure prescribing an event is consistent with the objects of the Act.
Rules must specify the authorising body, event bodies, protected indicia, and protection period for every prescribed major sporting event.
