Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Parliament appropriates $345,353,000 for the Parliamentary Departments for the financial year ending 30 June 2027.
The President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House can approve extra spending if there is an urgent need; this applies if funds were accidentally omitted or the need was unforeseen.
Spending approved by a Presiding Officer is capped at $300,000 for the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Parliamentary Budget Office; the Department of Parliamentary Services is capped at $1 million.
Parliamentary Departments can use funds from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for departmental expenses or to achieve specific outcomes listed in the bill.
Money from an appropriation can be moved into a special account; the account must serve a purpose covered by that appropriation.
