Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Drivers caught speeding more than 40km/h over the limit face immediate licence suspension or disqualification.
Drivers can avoid punishment for passenger seatbelt offences by giving a passenger seatbelt declaration; the named passenger may then be prosecuted instead.
Minimum penalties increase for people driving with both a relevant drug in their system and alcohol over the limit.
Courts must impose the stated minimum penalty if they decide to give a fine-only penalty.
Police officers can use saliva collection units if the commissioner confirms they are competent.
Authorised persons can remove aground, anchored, or moored watercraft and anything attached to them.
The chief executive can invite offers for integrated mass transit service contracts for Wave Stage 3 services.
