Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

People without a dealers licence cannot acquire 2 or more firearms within 12 months; they face up to 10 years in prison if they do
People without a dealers licence cannot dispose of 10 or more firearms within 12 months; they face up to 15 years in prison if they do
Prison terms go up to 15 years for people who break firearm prohibition orders
The Chief Commissioner can refuse a licence if the applicant is not an Australian citizen or exempt
The Chief Commissioner must cancel a licence if the holder does not meet citizenship requirements
The Chief Commissioner can refuse a licence if the applicant fails a firearms background check
The Chief Commissioner must cancel a licence immediately if the holder fails a firearms background check
