Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Mining lease and licence holders cannot undertake hydraulic fracturing.
This ban does not apply to producing geothermal energy.
Any existing terms in a mining authorisation that allow hydraulic fracturing are void.
The Mineral Resources Legislation (Ban on Fracking) Act 2026 is repealed after one year.
