Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Public authorities must nominate a mandatory notifier to report misconduct.
Mandatory notifiers must tell the Integrity Commission if they suspect a public officer of misconduct; this applies even if they have confidentiality obligations.
Notifiers don't have to report misconduct if they know someone else already did; they also don't have to report if legal or disciplinary actions ended before the law started.
The Integrity Commission can investigate or report notifiers who fail to notify them.
The Integrity Commission can demand reports on actions taken by a public authority; it can also give advice on how to run an investigation.
Public authorities must stop their own investigations if the Integrity Commission takes over and tells them to stop.
