Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
People can now vote in federal elections and referendums from age 16.
People can now enrol to vote from age 14.
Voters can cast a provisional vote if they claim to be eligible for enrolment on polling day.
A provisional vote by someone eligible but not enrolled counts as a claim for enrolment.
Claims for enrolment made on polling day bypass the usual suspension period; this ensures the vote is counted if the person is added to the roll.
