Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The CEO can now appoint school attendance officers to monitor and enforce school attendance laws.
School attendance officers and other authorised persons must show their ID cards to people they are dealing with; this does not apply to police in uniform.
School attendance officers and the CEO can issue information notices to parents or children; they can also issue compliance notices.
The CEO or school attendance officers can mandate a compulsory conference if they believe attendance laws are being broken.
Schools must now record a student's country of birth and gender in enrolment records.
Officials must now 'believe on reasonable grounds' rather than 'reasonably believe' before using certain enforcement powers.
