“Madam Speaker, I present a Bill titled Fiscal Integrity and Transparency Amendment Bill 2025, Serial 15, and I table a copy of the explanatory statement. Madam Speaker, I move that the Bill be now read a first time. 834 --- Debates and Questions Wednesday 12 February 2025 Meeting No 11 The Bill enacts legislation to repeal the limit on borrowing, commonly referred to as the debt ceiling.”

“Madam Speaker, the Territory Labor opposition does not support this Bill. There is a clear and concerning pattern of behaviour of cover-ups and cop-outs from this CLP government. The CLP tried to cover up the ICAC police leadership mess rather than address it. Spouting about consequences and having credibility, the CLP in no way, shape or form exhibits the best behaviour.”

“Madam Speaker, I apologise to members; I will try to be brief. I will quickly put some comments on the record about debt in response to the Member for Johnston’s comments. Taking out a loan to pay for an asset that returns a dividend is good debt. There is a question of what an asset and a liability is. An asset puts money in your pocket; a liability takes money out of your pocket.”
