Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Controller cannot grant a water extraction licence for an Aboriginal water reserve unless the applicant is an eligible Aboriginal person for that land.
The Controller can grant the licence if the applicant has the agreement of the eligible Aboriginal people for that land.
Surface water is defined as being on or immediately adjacent to the land for Aboriginal water reserve designations.
Groundwater is defined as being beneath the land for Aboriginal water reserve designations.
