Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Ombudsman can review public information to see if it breaks the Public Information Act 2010.
The Ombudsman can start these reviews on their own; they can also start them if an Assembly member asks in writing.
The Ombudsman must notify an Assembly member if they decide not to review requested information.
The Ombudsman takes over any unfinished reviews or reports from the Auditor-General.
The Auditor-General must hand over all related documents and evidence to the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman replaces the Auditor-General for all duties under the Public Information Act 2010.
Timeframes in the Public Information Act 2010 now use business days instead of working days.
