Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Ministers, assistant ministers and their staff are no longer public sector organisations for recorded information they create or receive; this applies if the information is not shared with other public sector bodies.
People buying category A or B firearms must hold a licence for that category; they must also already own a registered firearm of that same category.
Merit must be the primary consideration for appointments under the Police Administration Act 1978; it is not the sole consideration.
The Administrator determines the pay and expenses for the Public Trustee.
The Minister can now appoint a public sector employee as the Public Trustee.
The term 'parliamentary secretary' is replaced with 'assistant minister' in the Information Act 2002.
