Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Information sharing entities can only give data to another entity if they believe it will help that entity perform a function.
Police officers can still use their powers under other laws while acting under the Public Transport (Passenger Safety) Act 2008.
Authorised officers must show their identity card if someone asks to see it while the officer is exercising a power.
Police officers acting as transit officers are not subject to the Director's rules on the use of force.
Former public housing safety officers are now considered authorised officers.
Authorised officers and police officers can now perform duties previously reserved for public housing safety officers under the Housing Act 1982.
