Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Courts must set a non-parole period of 25 years for murder if the victim was the offender's spouse or de facto partner.
The same 25-year minimum applies if the victim was in an intimate personal relationship with the offender.
This applies whether the relationship existed at the time of the death or ended previously.
These sentencing rules do not apply to murders committed before the law starts.
