Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Powerful e-bikes are now classified as road vehicles.
Electrically power-assisted cycles (EPACs) are now classified as road vehicles.
The Minister must set a national road vehicle standard for powerful e-bikes within six months.
The Minister must set a national road vehicle standard for EPACs within six months; this standard covers pedal cranks, seat height, and anti-tampering limits.
EPACs are exempt from road vehicle regulations for the first six months.
EPACs remain exempt from road vehicle regulations if they meet the national standard.
The Secretary can exempt specific EPACs from road vehicle regulations; this applies if the bike is for a person with a disability or will not be ridden on public roads.
