Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
People in possession of prime agricultural land must not use it for anything other than agriculture
People who buy prime agricultural land must ensure it is used only for agriculture
People cannot expand existing non-agricultural uses on prime agricultural land
Land that stops being used for non-agricultural purposes must return to agricultural use
Other laws have no effect if they would allow prime agricultural land to be used for non-agricultural purposes
The Governor-General can make regulations to carry out this Act
