Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Independent parliamentarians and members of parties with fewer than 8 members get a minimum of 3 staff; this includes at least 1 senior adviser.
The Opposition gets a staffing allocation based on the highest of 110 staff; 22% of total government staff; or a number set by the Prime Minister.
Minority parties with 8 or more members get a staffing allocation based on the highest of 25 staff; 5% of total government staff; or a number set by the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister cannot use their power to reduce these minimum staffing entitlements.
Office-holders cannot hire new staff if they have already reached their total staffing or senior adviser limit.
The Leader of the Opposition and leaders of minority parties with 8 or more members decide how to split their group's staff among their members.
