Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

People who help someone enter Australia face up to 10 years jail if that person is a member of a terrorist group, has committed a terrorism offence, or intends to commit one.
The law does not apply if the person has written permission from both the Foreign Affairs Minister and the Home Affairs Minister.
The person is strictly liable for whether they acted on behalf of a Commonwealth authority.
This law does not apply to people acting on behalf of the Australian government.
Two existing sunset dates in the Criminal Code are pushed back to 7 September 2030.
