Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Affected persons; their immediate family; or legal representatives can apply for a review of a refusal for a defence or foreign award.
Senior officers in the chain of command or Defence Force witnesses can apply for a review of a refusal for a defence honour; provided the affected person or their family consents.
Decisions cannot be reviewed if a previous decision had already cancelled the honour or award.
Refusals for honours or awards cannot be reviewed if the service occurred more than 20 years ago; or if the operation ended more than 20 years ago.
