Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

People giving evidence or producing documents can now appear before the AER; this includes specified SES staff or people assisting the AER.
The AER can hire consultants for advice and services.
The AER can use staff from other Commonwealth agencies or State and Territory governments.
The ACCC can provide the AER with IT and corporate resources.
AER staff must be engaged under the Public Service Act 1999.
The Minister can make transitional rules to carry out the changes; these rules cannot create new offences or taxes.
The ACCC is now a listed entity for finance law purposes.
