Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
A medical condition for a medically retired member is compensable if it happened while performing their functions; those functions must have contributed to the condition to a significant degree.
Medically retired members can make written submissions to the Police Commissioner after receiving a medical condition notice.
The Police Commissioner can use an officer or agent to perform their functions.
The Police Commissioner can make a determination themselves; they can also appoint another person or body to make the determination.
The Police Commissioner does not have to pay a medically retired member any amount that is reasonably regarded as being for a specific purpose.
