Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Minister can charge a penalty instead of cancelling a mining tenement.
People who apply for the forfeiture of a prospecting licence get first priority to apply for that tenement.
Applicants must use the approved form when asking the Minister to amend an exploration licence application.
Mining development and closure proposals must include all prescribed information.
The Director of Geological Survey must give a copy of required reports to the mining registrar.
The Minister can cancel or change lease terms if there is an error; this must not harm the lease holder.
The Minister can decide whether to restore a mining tenement regardless of what a report recommends.
A single exemption application can now cover more than one mining tenement.
