Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
People can face 3 years in prison for sharing material that humiliates a victim; this includes material that boasts about or encourages certain crimes.
A person is not guilty if they shared the material for scientific, artistic, or news purposes; this also includes sharing to warn others or in the public interest.
Law enforcement and intelligence officers are exempt if they act in good faith during their official duties.
Courts can order a charged person to delete or destroy the material; this can happen even if the person is not convicted.
People who ignore a court order to remove or destroy the material face 12 months in prison and a $12,000 fine.
The $12,000 fine for ignoring a removal order includes a $200 daily penalty; this daily fee does not apply to children.
