If this bill passes, it means that:
Renters who experience discrimination in a residential rental agreement can apply to the Tribunal for compensation.
The Tribunal can make specific orders for renters who are victims of family or personal violence.
The law bans unregistered debt collectors from collecting debts.
Domestic building contract providers must include a warning if the price of work is likely to vary.
Residential rental providers must give keys or security devices to renters.
Residential rental providers must pay bonds directly to the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority.
Agents for retirement village contracts must hold entry payments in a trust account.
Land deposits must be paid into a special purpose account.
If no special account exists, a lawyer, conveyancer or estate agent must hold the land deposits.
