Effects of Bill:

This bill being passed means that... Having or Using another person's personal information (other than their name, contact details, DOB, whether they are married, relatives) without a good excuse, is an offence.
This bill being passed means that... Kids using Fake ID or their parents ID to access porn, gambling or other R18+ material including computer games will no longer be exempt (exemptions for using fake ID to get smokes or alcohol remain).
This bill being passed means that... A certificate that declares someone to be the victim of identity theft previously could not be issued unless a perpetrator was convicted; this is being changed so a judge can issue one based on the balance of probabilities, having reviewed the case. That way a victim can give this to the bank/whoever needs it. A certificate can now be issued even if the perpetrator happens to be overseas and is never successfully prosecuted.
